Who Am I?

I have been a Veterinary Surgeon since 2005. I love my work and I am passionate about helping my patients and their humans.

I've spent my life treating animals of one kind or another as a Vet and now, after several years of life changing events, I've decided to try and combine two of the things I love most!

Art has saved me over the past past 6 years whilst I haven't been physically or mentally able to be the Vet that I was and still dearly want to be, and it has made me realise that there is more to me than just being 'Emma the Vet'. Those of you that know me will understand how challenging things have been, not just for me but for my vet team, close family, and my Mum particularly.

Art has given me a safe place, solace and the time to grieve for what I've lost, but also the time to rediscover myself and my passion for art and wildlife.

After a lot of trial and error I finally settled on pastels as my medium of choice and now my spare time is spent at my easel with my subject of the moment, music playing, the dog snoring and a cup of something hot.

I’m still developing my skills which I’m sure will take a lifetime, but every piece I produce is a learning tool. I love getting lost in the moment so the real world fades away and all I have to think about is which colour I’m going to pick next or whether my lights are light enough or my darks, dark enough.

So, here I am…putting myself out there for the world to see. Which, quite frankly, is somewhat scary, but there’s no point living a life wondering ‘what if’ is there?!

All the work that you see is for sale. Some as framed originals (if they haven’t already been sold) and all as unmounted or mounted prints. If you want a print framed, I can sort that too (I have a lovely tame framer!).
